Rules to Watching Saturday-Morning Cartoons
"Saturday Mornings Cartoons" caught on in the mid-1960s, when the networks realized that they could concentrate kids' viewing on that one morning to appeal to advertisers. Most notably, children's toys and products like breakfast cereals. When I think back to my pop culture childhood, one of my greatest memories was Saturday Morning Cartoons. This was when all of the cartoons would be broadcast and it was important to know what channel and what time each program came on. We didn't have the VHS recorder (the what?), a DVR, On Demand or any modern day recording device. This was live TV and...
Creepshow (1982) A Classic Horror Movie
Creepshow, for those that don't know, is an all time classic 80's horror movie. The comic book feel of the movie, the great stories along with the amazing hand crafted SFX make this a must watch classic horror film. The term, "classic movie", gets thrown around a lot to describe one's favorite film for whatever personal feeling they may have for it. With that said, how can I justify my claim that Creepshow is a "classic horror movie"? This was like an all-star team here. Of course we have the great story (stories) and fine actors and actresses. The film's ensemble cast includes Hal...
10 fun facts to know about Aquaman
DC Comics’ Aquaman has had an intersting and strange existance. Suddenly changing size, meeting your doppelganger, aliens invading and making you perform in a circus of some kind — these are only some of the situations that Silver Age heroes faced on a daily basis. It was just the pervasive weirdness of the world as a whole that made life difficult. ***Before we get to the “Fun Facts” here’s an absolutly strange and disturbing one:Aquaman was raised by DolphinsThe dolphins that raised Aquaman sent him away to interact with actual humans because he was...
Cartoons of the 80's
Many of us that grew up in the 70's and 80's probably do not watch cartoons now a days but I bet you get this rush of excitement when you see a cartoon back from your childhood. Maybe because we, as kids, were more limited on our cartoon viewing than kids today. We had to wait until Saturday Morning to watch our favorite cartoons. I feel that we had to, in a sense, work for the priviledge of watching our cartoons. We had to make sure our homework and chores were done before the cartoons started or you were not...
The Love Boat - A few things that I didn't remember
Even though the show lasted 9 seasons, Critics hated it. The New York Times called it ‘’dreadful porridge,’’ while The Washington Post declared that ‘’shows like Love Boat pull the median level of mediocrity down to unfathomable lows.’’ Producers had trouble getting good writers to work on the show; no one wanted to be associated with it. They could get almost anyone they wanted. More than 1,000 guest stars boarded The Love Boat, from future A-listers (Tom Hanks, Billy Crystal) to film legends (Ginger Rogers, Douglas Fairbanks Jr.) to athletes and artists (Reggie Jackson, Andy Warhol). The day after Vanessa Williams...
